MEET: COURTNEY YAMAGIWA

BIO

Hi! My name is Courtney and I'm a double major in German and Consumer Affairs with a minor in Hospitality Management.

I grew up in a small town in Northern California and decided to go to CSULB because I loved the campus. Since I came to CSULB I knew I wanted to be active and make a positive change on campus. I joined SQE (Students for Quality) to fight for an affordable, accessible, and quality education. I joined a sorority to be more active on campus, meet more people, and give back to my community through philanthropy. This past school year I have had to opportunity to serve as your Secretary of Internal Affairs in ASI.

PLATFORM

As your Senator from CHHS, I will advocate and listen to you. I will push for an affordable education while getting more resources to help you graduate. We are #MovingForwardTogether

EXPERIENCE

With SQE I have organized actions, done lobbying, and gone to the CSU Board of Trustees meetings to advocate for students and stop tuition and fee increases. In 2014 I actively worked on the campaign to stop the USU Fee Referendum that would have increased the USU fee by $165. This year I have been working tirelessly on stopping the potential tuition increase. From my experiences I have found something that I am passionate about--fighting for consumers (in this case, students). After I graduate I want to work in advocacy and organizing, go into teaching, or work in the travel/tourism industry.
