YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED!

WELCOME TO OUR Q&A

Here we will answer questions you may have or questions you have asked! We would also like to thank those of you who have submitted through our TELL US form and on our social sites.

Facebook Question

Q: What are you going to do about campus sexual assault, dating violence, and domestic violence? How do you plan to address the Red Zone? I don't want just doing awareness events in April or October. Also, keep in mind that an increase in reports do not mean there is an increase in assaults. Reports are a good thing.

Answer: Thank you for the question. We’re going to address the questions in the order you asked them.
1. Educating the campus community is key. We believe that offering trainings on how to prevent sexual assault and domestic violence can be done to help prevent them from reoccurring is key. This is in addition to the sexual assault training that students have to complete.
2. Although sexual assault is covered during SOAR, we would advocate for SOAR advisors to educate incoming freshmen or transfer students about the Red Zone and how to prevent any type of assault.
3. We agree, having awareness events is April or October is not enough. We would definitely advocate for monthly events or at least monthly trainings be made available for students to take a part of.
In regards to your comments on reporting, we agree. What we would do is find a way to make reporting easier and safer because many sexual assaults go unreported due to the stigma of being a victim and victim shaming.

Submission Question

Q: What will you do to address the different accessibility issues throughout campus (eg. lack of more gender neutral bathrooms and the fact that students who use wheelchairs need to go long distances in order to reach upper campus because there is only 3 elevators and no alternate paths).

Answer: Thanks for reaching out! In regards to the question about gender neutral restrooms, CSULB offers a gender inclusive restrooms at different locations around campus. Here is the link that directs to the list and map of where those restrooms are.

As for the students who use wheelchairs and them having to go long distances to get to upper campus, we would welcome any suggestions from students with disabilities and work with DSS to address the issues and come to a feasible solution.
